This Privacy Policy applies to the Malaysian edition of Unum (https://unum.com.br/my/) and explains how your personal data is handled when you visit this website or contact us. It has been prepared in line with the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (Act 709), as amended by the Personal Data Protection (Amendment) Act 2024. ETUS DIGITAL LLC is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. Unum is an independent editorial website. It is not a bank, lender or card issuer, it does not submit applications on your behalf and it does not pass your personal data to banks or other providers. When you click on a product, you go to the provider’s official website, and any information you give there is handled by that provider under its own privacy notice.

2. Personal data we process and where it comes from

  • Browsing data: IP address, device and browser type, language, pages visited, date and time of your visit and the referring page.
  • Online identifiers and information collected through cookies and similar technologies, according to the choices available to you (see sections 5 and 6).
  • Your email address, name (if you include it) and the content of your messages, when you email us.

We collect browsing data and identifiers automatically from your device when you use the website, and contact details directly from you when you email us. We do not obtain personal data about you from other sources. We do not ask for identity card (MyKad) or passport numbers, bank details, income or credit information, and we do not ask for sensitive personal data.

We process your personal data with your consent or where the processing is necessary under section 6(2) of the Personal Data Protection Act 2010, for example to comply with a legal obligation. We use it only for the purposes above or for purposes directly related to them.

4. Your choices and how to limit processing

You can withdraw your consent or limit how your personal data is processed at any time, without affecting processing carried out before you did so:

  • Where a privacy and cookie settings panel is available in your region, you can change your choice there.
  • You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
  • You can turn off personalised Google ads at https://myadcenter.google.com/.
  • You can email contact@unum.com.br, in English or Bahasa Melayu, and tell us what you would like us to stop.

If you refuse cookies that are not strictly necessary, the website still works, but ads may be less relevant to you.

5. Advertising and profiling

Unum is funded by advertising served by third-party networks, including Google (Google AdSense and Google Ad Manager), and, where indicated in the settings panel, by other advertising partners. Where you have agreed or where the law allows, these networks and the audience data platform Lotame may use cookies and identifiers to build a profile of your interests and show you ads based on your visits to this and other websites. If you turn off personalised ads, you may still see ads, but they will not be based on that profile.

We do not make decisions based solely on automated processing that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.

If you block strictly necessary cookies, parts of the website may not work.

7. Who we disclose your personal data to

We do not sell your personal data. We disclose it only as needed to the following classes of third parties:

  • Service providers that host the website, deliver content, provide security, email and audience measurement, acting on our behalf and under our instructions.
  • Google, other advertising partners and Lotame, in line with the choices available to you (sections 4 to 6).
  • Professional advisers, and authorities and courts where the law requires it.

8. Transfers outside Malaysia

Your personal data is processed in the United States, where ETUS DIGITAL LLC is established, and may be processed in other countries by our service providers. Before transferring it, we take reasonable precautions and exercise due diligence so that it is protected to the standard required by the Personal Data Protection Act 2010. Google participates in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. Our hosting and content delivery providers, Lotame and our own measurement tool are bound by contractual clauses that protect your personal data. 9. How long we keep your personal data

  • Google Analytics event data: up to 14 months. The _ga cookie lasts up to 2 years.
  • Logs from our own measurement tool and technical logs: up to 2 years.
  • Emails you send us: up to 2 years.
  • Other information collected through cookies: for the period shown for each cookie in the settings panel or set by the third party.

When these periods end, we delete or anonymise the personal data, unless the law requires us to keep it for longer.

10. Your rights

Under the Personal Data Protection Act 2010, you have the right to:

  • Request access to your personal data and a copy of it.
  • Request correction of personal data that is inaccurate, incomplete, misleading or out of date.
  • Withdraw your consent to the processing of your personal data.
  • Ask us to stop processing that causes or is likely to cause you substantial damage or distress.
  • Ask us to stop processing your personal data for direct marketing purposes.
  • Ask us to transmit your personal data to another data controller of your choice, where technically feasible and the data format is compatible.

To exercise your rights or make an enquiry or complaint about your personal data, email contact@unum.com.br, in English or Bahasa Melayu, with the subject line “Personal data request”. If we need to verify your identity, we will ask only for what is strictly necessary. We will respond to access and correction requests within 21 days of receiving them, as required by the Act.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Personal Data Protection Commissioner (Jabatan Perlindungan Data Peribadi) at https://www.pdp.gov.my.

11. Personal data breaches

If a personal data breach occurs, we will notify the Personal Data Protection Commissioner and, where the breach causes or is likely to cause significant harm to you, we will also notify you, as required by law.

12. Children

This website is intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If we find that we have, we will delete it.

13. Security

We use technical and organisational measures appropriate to the risk, such as encrypted connections, access controls and system monitoring, to protect your personal data from loss, misuse, unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration or destruction.

14. Third-party websites

Our content links to the official websites of banks and other providers. Those websites have their own privacy notices, for which Unum is not responsible.

15. Language

This notice is published in English and in Bahasa Melayu (Notis Privasi). Both versions describe the same processing.

16. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The current version will always be published on this page with its effective date, and we will publish a notice of significant changes on the website before they take effect. If we want to use your personal data for a new purpose that is not directly related to the purposes above, we will tell you before doing so.
