Effective date: 8 October 2026
Last updated: 15 October 2026
This Privacy Policy applies to the Canadian edition of Unum (https://unum.com.br/ca/) and explains how your personal information is handled when you visit this website or contact us. It has been prepared in line with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, where applicable, provincial privacy laws, including Quebec’s Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector.
1. Who is responsible for your information
ETUS DIGITAL LLC (Florida Division of Corporations, Document No. L19000150138)
601 Brickell Key Drive, Suite 901, Miami, FL 33131, United States
Email: contact@unum.com.br
Unum is an independent editorial website. It is not a bank or a lender, it does not submit applications on your behalf and it does not pass your information to financial providers. When you click on a product, you go to the provider’s official website, and any information you give there is the responsibility of that provider.
2. Person in charge of the protection of personal information
The Person in Charge of the Protection of Personal Information at ETUS DIGITAL LLC is accountable for our privacy policies and practices and receives requests, questions and complaints about them. You can reach this person:
- by email at contact@unum.com.br, with the subject line “Privacy request” or “Privacy complaint”; or
- by mail at ETUS DIGITAL LLC, Attn: Person in Charge of the Protection of Personal Information, 601 Brickell Key Drive, Suite 901, Miami, FL 33131, United States.
3. Information we collect
- Browsing data: IP address, device and browser type, language, pages visited, date and time of your visit and referring page.
- Online identifiers and information collected through cookies and similar technologies, according to the choices available to you (see sections 5 and 6).
- Contact details and the content of your messages, when you email us.
- Quiz data: your name and email address, when you give them in the credit card and loan quizzes hosted at responda.unum.com.br, and your answers to the quiz.
We collect this information through the website itself, through cookies and similar technologies, and from the emails you send us. We do not ask for identity documents, bank details, income or credit information. Providing your information is voluntary: you can read the website without contacting us, and if you refuse cookies that are not strictly necessary, the website still works, but ads may be less relevant to you.
In the quizzes we ask only for your name and email address, and we do not send your name or email to Meta, TikTok or Google. The quizzes help you find, in an editorial and guidance-only way, the credit card or loan that best fits your preferences, based on Unum’s reviews. They do not assess your credit, do not check credit bureaus, do not decide any approval and do not receive applications.
4. Why we use your information
| Purpose | Data |
|---|---|
| Displaying the website, keeping it secure and preventing abuse or fraud | Browsing data |
| Measuring audience and improving content | Browsing data and identifiers |
| Showing advertising and measuring its performance | Identifiers and browsing data |
| Answering your questions and requests | Contact details and message content |
| Creating the quiz recommendation and emailing you the result | Name, email address and quiz answers |
| Sending you news, comparisons and commercial emails from Unum, only if you tick an optional, unticked box | Name and email address |
| Measuring the ad campaigns that lead to the quizzes (Meta, TikTok and Google), only with your consent | Online identifiers and browsing data |
| Complying with legal requirements and defending our rights | Data needed in each case |
You can withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting processing carried out before you withdrew it. Where the privacy and cookie settings panel is available in your region, you can change your choice there. You can also delete or block cookies in your browser and turn off personalized ads at https://myadcenter.google.com/.
5. Advertising and profiling
Unum is funded by advertising served by third-party networks, including Google (Google AdSense and Google Ad Manager), and, where indicated in the settings panel, by other advertising partners. Where you have agreed or where the law allows, these networks and their partners, and the audience data platform Lotame, may use cookies and identifiers to build a profile of your interests and show you ads based on your visits to this and other websites. If you turn off personalized ads, you may still see ads, but they will not be based on that profile.
The quizzes at responda.unum.com.br are landing pages for ads that Unum runs on Meta (Facebook and Instagram), TikTok and Google. If you accept advertising cookies in the Google Ad Manager notice on that page, the pixels and tags of those networks are activated to measure which ads lead to the quizzes. If you do not accept them, those pixels are not activated and you can still complete the quiz. We keep Meta and TikTok advanced matching and Google enhanced conversions turned off, so your name and email address are not sent to those networks. No Google Ad Manager ads are shown in the quizzes.
If you are in Quebec: some of the advertising and analytics technologies we use can identify or locate you or build a profile of your interests. You can turn these functions off at any time by blocking or deleting cookies in your browser, by turning off personalised Google ads at https://myadcenter.google.com/ and, where available in your region, through the privacy and cookie settings panel.
You can find out how Google uses information from sites that use its services at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and turn off personalized Google ads at https://myadcenter.google.com/.
We do not make decisions based solely on automated processing that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
6. Cookies
We use the following cookies and similar technologies:
| Type | What they do | Who sets them | Examples and duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Make the website work, keep it secure and store your cookie choices | Unum (first party) and, where shown, the consent tool | Session or as shown in the settings panel |
| Analytics | Count visits, show where traffic comes from and how the website is used | Unum, through its own measurement tool (etus.io), and Google Analytics (third party) | __br_* (own measurement tool); _ga (up to 2 years) |
| Advertising | Show ads, limit how often you see the same ad, measure performance and, where permitted, personalise ads | Google and other advertising partners (third parties) | Google advertising cookies |
| Quiz campaign measurement | Measure which Meta, TikTok and Google ads lead to the quizzes, only with your consent | Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd. / Meta Platforms, Inc., TikTok Technology Limited / TikTok Inc. and Google (third parties) | Pixels and tags of each provider; duration set by each provider |
| Audience data | Build interest segments used to personalise ads | Lotame, an audience data platform (third party) | panoramaId, _cc_id |
The quizzes at responda.unum.com.br show the same cookie notice. The Meta, TikTok and Google pixels are not activated until you accept advertising cookies.
You can delete or block cookies in your browser. If you block strictly necessary cookies, parts of the website may not work.
7. Who we share your information with
We do not sell your personal information for money. We share it only as needed with:
- Service providers that host the website, deliver content, provide security, email and audience measurement, acting on our behalf and under our instructions.
- Google, advertising partners and Lotame, in line with the choices available to you (sections 5 and 6).
- Quiz data (name, email address and answers): only ETUS DIGITAL LLC and the hosting and email-sending providers that process it on our behalf. It is not passed to banks, lenders or commercial partners.
- Meta, TikTok and Google, only for the browsing identifiers collected by the pixels and only if you accept advertising cookies.
- Authorities and courts, where the law requires it.
8. International transfers
Your information is processed in the United States, where ETUS DIGITAL LLC is established, and may be processed in other countries by our service providers. Google participates in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. Our hosting and content delivery providers, Lotame and our own measurement tool are bound by contractual safeguards. While outside Canada and Quebec, your information is subject to the laws of those countries and may be accessed by their courts, law enforcement and national security authorities. Quiz data is hosted in the United States with the same safeguards. Meta and TikTok may process pixel data in the United States and other countries, under the safeguards each company states in its own terms. You can ask for more information at contact@unum.com.br.
9. How long we keep your information
- Google Analytics event data: up to 14 months. The _ga cookie lasts up to 2 years.
- Logs from our own measurement tool and technical logs: up to 2 years, then deleted or anonymized.
- Quiz data (name, email address and answers): up to 2 years, or until you withdraw your consent or unsubscribe, whichever comes first for commercial emails.
- Emails you send us: up to 2 years.
- Other information collected through cookies: for the period shown for each cookie in the settings panel or set by the third party.
When these periods end, we destroy or anonymize the information.
10. Your rights
You have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, to ask us to correct it, and to withdraw your consent, subject to legal or contractual restrictions. If you are in Quebec, you may also ask us to stop disseminating your information or to de-index links to it, and to receive computerised personal information you provided in a structured, commonly used technological format. On request, we will tell you how long we keep your information.
To exercise your rights, email contact@unum.com.br with the subject line “Privacy request” and tell us which right you want to exercise. If we need to verify your identity, we will ask only for what is strictly necessary. Exercising your rights is free. If you receive commercial emails, you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in the email or by writing to contact@unum.com.br.
We will respond in writing within 30 days of receiving your request. If we need more time, as the law allows, we will tell you before the 30 days expire, explain why and tell you the new time limit, which will not exceed a further 30 days.
11. How to make a complaint
If you have a concern about how we handle your personal information, email contact@unum.com.br with the subject line “Privacy complaint”. The Person in Charge of the Protection of Personal Information will review it and reply in writing within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our reply, you can file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, if you are in Quebec, with the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec.
12. Children
This website is intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If we find that we have, we will delete it.
13. Security
We use technical and organizational measures appropriate to the risk, such as encrypted connections, access controls and system monitoring.
14. Third-party websites
Our content links to the official websites of banks and other providers. Those websites have their own privacy policies, for which Unum is not responsible.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The current version will always be published on this page with its effective date, and we will publish a notice of significant changes on the website before they take effect.
