This Privacy Policy applies to the Botswana edition of Unum (https://unum.com.br/bw/) and explains how your personal information is handled when you visit this website or contact us. It has been prepared in line with the Data Protection Act, 2024 (Act No. 18 of 2024) of Botswana.
1. Who is responsible for your information
ETUS DIGITAL LLC (Florida Division of Corporations, Document No. L19000150138)
601 Brickell Key Drive, Suite 901, Miami, FL 33131, United States
Email: contact@unum.com.br
Questions, requests and complaints about how we handle personal information can be sent to contact@unum.com.br with the subject line “Privacy request”.
Unum is an independent editorial website. It is not a bank or a credit provider, it does not submit applications on your behalf and it does not pass your information to financial providers. When you click on a product, you go to the provider’s official website, and any information you give there is the responsibility of that provider.
2. Information we collect
- Browsing data: IP address, device and browser type, language, pages visited, date and time of your visit and referring page.
- Online identifiers and information collected through cookies and similar technologies, according to the choices available to you (see sections 4 and 5).
- Contact details and the content of your messages, when you email us.
We collect this information through the website itself, through cookies and similar technologies, and from the emails you send us. We do not ask for identity documents, bank details, income or credit information, and we do not intentionally collect sensitive personal information.
You do not have to give us any personal information to read this website. Providing your contact details when you email us is voluntary, but without them we cannot reply to you. If you block cookies that are not strictly necessary, the website still works, but ads may be less relevant to you.
3. Why we use your information
| Purpose | Data |
|---|---|
| Displaying the website, keeping it secure and preventing abuse or fraud | Browsing data |
| Measuring audience and improving content | Browsing data and identifiers |
| Showing advertising and measuring its performance | Identifiers and browsing data |
| Answering your questions and requests | Contact details and message content |
| Complying with legal requirements and defending our rights | Data needed in each case |
Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time, without affecting processing carried out before you withdrew it. Where the privacy and cookie settings panel is available in your region, you can change your choice there. You can also delete or block cookies in your browser and turn off personalised ads at https://myadcenter.google.com/.
4. Advertising
Unum is funded by advertising served by third-party networks, including Google (Google AdSense and Google Ad Manager), and, where indicated in the settings panel, by other advertising partners. These networks and their partners, and the audience data platform Lotame, may use cookies and identifiers to show you ads based on your visits to this and other websites, according to the choices available to you. If you turn off personalised ads, you may still see ads, but they will not be based on your interests.
You can find out how Google uses information from sites that use its services at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and turn off personalised Google ads at https://myadcenter.google.com/.
We do not make decisions based solely on automated processing that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
5. Cookies
We use the following cookies and similar technologies. More detail is in our Cookie Policy.
| Type | What they do | Who sets them | Examples and duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Make the website work, keep it secure and store your cookie choices | Unum (first party) and, where shown, the consent tool | Session or as shown in the settings panel |
| Analytics | Count visits, show where traffic comes from and how the website is used | Unum, through its own measurement tool (etus.io), and Google Analytics (third party) | __br_* (own measurement tool); _ga (up to 2 years) |

| Audience data | Build interest segments used to personalise ads | Lotame, an audience data platform (third party) | panoramaId, _cc_id |
You can delete or block cookies in your browser. If you block strictly necessary cookies, parts of the website may not work.
6. Who we share your information with
We do not sell your personal information for money. We share it only as needed with:
- Service providers that host the website (Google LLC, through Google Cloud, United States), deliver content (Cloudflare, Inc., United States), provide security, email and audience measurement (including our own measurement tool, with servers in the United States), acting on our behalf and under our instructions.
- Google, advertising partners and Lotame, in line with the choices available to you (sections 4 and 5).
- Authorities and courts, where the law requires it.
7. International transfers
ETUS DIGITAL LLC is established in the United States, so your information is processed there, and our service providers may process it in other countries. The laws of those countries may not provide the same level of protection as the law of Botswana. We transfer personal data outside Botswana only as permitted by the Data Protection Act, 2024: Google is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, and our hosting and content delivery providers, Lotame and our own measurement tool are bound by contractual safeguards for your personal data. Where the Act requires your explicit consent or an authorisation from the Information and Data Protection Commission for a transfer, we obtain it before the transfer takes place. You can ask for more information at contact@unum.com.br.
8. How long we keep your information
- Google Analytics event data: up to 14 months. The _ga cookie lasts up to 2 years.
- Logs from our own measurement tool and technical logs: up to 2 years, then deleted or de-identified.
- Emails you send us: up to 2 years.
- Other information collected through cookies: for the period shown for each cookie in the settings panel or set by the third party.
When these periods end, we delete or de-identify the information.
9. Your rights
Under the Data Protection Act, 2024, you have the right to:
- be informed about how your personal data is processed, ask whether we hold personal data about you and access it;
- ask us to correct or delete it;
- object to its processing, including its use for direct marketing;
- withdraw your consent, where we rely on it;
- not be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing that has legal or similarly significant effects on you;
- lodge a complaint with the Information and Data Protection Commission; and
- claim compensation for damage caused by a breach of the Act.
To exercise your rights, email contact@unum.com.br with the subject line “Privacy request” and tell us which right you want to exercise. If we need to verify your identity, we will ask only for what is strictly necessary. Exercising your rights is free.
We will respond as soon as possible and within the time limit set by the Act. If we need more time, we will tell you and explain why.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Information and Data Protection Commission of Botswana, the authority that supervises compliance with the Data Protection Act, 2024. Its current contact details are published through the Government of Botswana website at https://www.gov.bw.
10. Children
This website is intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If we find that we have, we will delete it.
11. Security
We use technical and organisational measures appropriate to the risk, such as encrypted connections, access controls and system monitoring.
12. Third-party websites
Our content links to the official websites of banks and other providers. Those websites have their own privacy policies, for which Unum is not responsible.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The current version will always be published on this page with its date, and we will publish a notice of significant changes on the website before they take effect.
