Standard Vehicle Loan: gather your documents and get your car finance application ready

Bring 3 months' payslips or 3 months' bank statements, plus proof of residence no older than 3 months. Your application starts with these records.

Vehicle Finance (Standard Bank)

Start your Standard Vehicle Loan application file with your South African ID and valid South African driver’s licence. You must be 18 or older.

Choose lower instalments with a balloon, with these limits on your family car’s use

Choosing a balloon payment gives you lower instalments. The contract prohibits paid transport of people or goods, racing, dangerous activities and illegal use.

Selling the car, giving up possession or taking it outside South Africa needs prior written bank consent. Approval requires credit checks and FICA compliance.

Your interest, insurance and financing fees

Interest tracks prime or the Official Rate for bank or group staff. Part A sets the margin. Keep bank-accepted comprehensive cover for all you owe for the term. A balloon does not fix rates.

The initiation fee includes VAT; choose to pay it separately or it joins your principal debt. A monthly service fee, also including VAT, is charged where applicable.

  • Be 18 or older, not in debt counselling or review.

Your questions answered

When does the financed car legally become yours under this contract?

The bank owns the car during the contract. Ownership passes to you after you pay all amounts and meet every contractual obligation.

Can you choose your own insurer for the financed vehicle?

Choose your insurer. The bank may replace unacceptable cover at your cost, explaining why. On request, show cover noting its ownership.

Can you make your car repayments without a debit order?

You pay by debit order unless the bank agrees otherwise in writing. Repayments must arrive on or before their due date.

Can you estimate the repayments before applying online?

Use the repayment calculator to estimate monthly instalments. Other calculators estimate your purchase price and affordability.
