Standard Bank Student Loan: apply for registration funding with your acceptance letter

Start with the letter you already have. Prepare the originals you and your guarantor need, then complete the request together at a branch.

Student Loan (Standard Bank)

Your acceptance letter lets you request registration funding with Standard Bank Student Loan. Full release needs your registration letter.

The original documents you and your guarantor bring to complete your funding request

Loans start at R5 000. Bring both original IDs, address proofs up to 3 months old and 3 months’ guarantor payslips; non-client guarantors need 3 months’ bank statements.

Part-time students repay while studying. Apply via Do I Qualify? and visit a branch within 7 days; with a guarantor, you both attend to sign.

Your guarantor pays interest and fees during full-time study

Standard Bank personalises your interest rate. The once-off initiation fee is R577.73 to R1 037.14, including VAT. You also pay a monthly service fee of R69.

For course-related books and equipment, borrow up to R20 000 with proof of costs, or R6 000 without it. Your repayment term can run from 12 to 120 months.

Apply for a new study year, not a repeated one

You need acceptance at an accredited institution and these documents.

  • You must be a South African citizen.
  • Your course must last at least 3 months.
  • Full-time study needs a sole guarantor on at least R3 000 a month.
  • Part-time students must earn at least R5 000 monthly.

You must declare you’re not insolvent, under debt review or applying for it, under administration or under sequestration.

What must I send after each academic year ends?

Within 3 months of year-end, send original results and enrolment or qualification proof; say if you’ll continue or risk default action.
