You apply as principal debtor, often a parent or sponsor. You need permanent employment or self-employment. At least R3,000 in income must be paid into your account.
Your work, income and the student’s enrolment determine who can apply
You and the student need South African IDs. The student must be registered at a recognised tertiary institution. You need income of at least R3,000 paid into your account.
Pay no capital during studies if you email annual enrolment proof to stldocs@fnb.co.za by 1 May. Missing proof can raise instalments and interest rates.
How your interest rate and insurance work
Your interest rate is linked to Prime and depends on your credit risk profile. After the student completes their studies, repayments include capital, interest, fees and charges.
FNB, a division of FirstRand Bank Limited, requires credit life insurance. You can provide your own suitable policy instead of taking its cover.
