Capitec Credit Card: understand how your income and commitments shape your limit

Your salary alone does not decide your credit limit. Existing debt repayments and your credit profile also count towards your personal assessment.

Capitec Credit Card

Capitec sets your personalised credit limit by assessing your verifiable income, existing debt repayments and credit profile. Your commitments matter too.

How your existing repayments affect the assessment of your credit limit

Your existing debts enter the affordability assessment alongside your other financial commitments. The bank considers what you can afford after those repayments.

A higher income alone does not secure a limit or approval. Approval depends on Capitec’s assessment of your credit risk and ability to repay.

What you pay for credit and card administration

Your interest rate starts from prime and depends on your credit profile. Separately, the R50 monthly administration fee totals R600 a year: R50 multiplied by 12.

Capitec Bank also charges a once-off R100 initiation fee. Together with 12 monthly fees of R50, that makes R700 in these fees, before interest.

Your questions answered

Does getting a personalised credit estimate mean my card is approved?

No. A personalised credit estimate belongs to Capitec’s general credit process. It is not card approval or a card agreement.

Will money I keep as a positive card balance earn interest?

Yes. You earn interest if you maintain a positive balance on your card. That rewards money held there, not a purchase.

When does my spending qualify for cash back?

Your card must be in good standing to earn 1% cash back on spending. Spending alone does not qualify you for the reward.

Will I have to pay for delivery of my new card?

No. You get free delivery of your new credit card. The initiation fee still applies; free delivery does not remove it.
